During their 2024 U.S. presidential campaign, former President Donald Trump and Ohio Sen. JD Vance have been rumored to have said or written various things about their pasts, politics and personal connections. We've fact-checked a variety of such claims, ranging from whether Trump once called Republicans the "dumbest group of voters" (false) to whether Vance previously referred to his running mate as "America's Hitler" (true).

Some claims center on statements the candidates purportedly made in interviews or speeches, like whether Vance once said parents should have a bigger say in U.S. democracy than nonparents (true). Some rumors stemmed entirely from alleged social media posts, like the claim that Trump posted that he "hated Taylor Swift" (true).

Regardless of the alleged statements' sources, we've done the research to confirm their authenticity or share necessary context. Our newsroom will continue to monitor such rumors involving the Republican candidates.
