On July 21, 2024, reports swirled that U.S. President Joe Biden had announced his resignation from the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his Democratic candidate of choice.

The assertion was true. Shortly before 2 p.m. ET, Biden posted a letter to his social media accounts, announcing he will "stand down" from the race:

The announcement followed months of calls from high-profile Democrats for Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race over concerns about his mental fitness.

About 30 minutes later, Biden expressed his support for Harris in a follow-up post. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year," that post read.
