Claim:
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris wore a $62,000 necklace while recording a video in which she asked people to donate to her 2024 presidential campaign.
Context

While it's true that a Tiffany & Co. necklace that resembles the one worn by Harris exists and is listed for purchase at $62,000, and Vogue at one point reported that she was wearing a Tiffany & Co. necklace, there was no definitive evidence to confirm, nor deny, that Harris was wearing the $62,000 version of the gold chainlink necklace. We're waiting to hear back from Tiffany & Co. and Harris' camp, and will update this article if we receive a response.

On Aug. 1, 2024, an X user posted a claim that U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris — the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2024 U.S. presidential election — was seen wearing a necklace worth more than $60,000 in a video soliciting donations for her campaign.

The X post, which had garnered more than 10.5 million views as of this writing, read:

Kamala Harris allegedly got caught wearing a $62,000 necklace while asking people to donate. This image has been surfacing on social media. What do you think?

The post included a split-screen image, with a screenshot of the video on the left purportedly showing Harris wearing the expensive jewelry and a screen grab on the right showing a Tiffany & Co. website page where the alleged necklace was available for purchase.

In sum, social media users spreading the claim suggested the necklace was an 18-karat, yellow-gold piece from Tiffany & Co.'s HardWear line, specifically the "Bold Graduated Link Necklace," which cost $62,000.

While it's true that a Tiffany & Co. necklace that resembles the one worn by Harris exists and is listed for purchase at $62,000, and Vogue at one point reported that she was wearing a Tiffany & Co. necklace, there was no definitive evidence to confirm, nor deny, that Harris was wearing the $62,000 version of the gold chainlink necklace while soliciting for campaign donations.

Snopes reached out to Harris' team asking to establish whether social media users had correctly identified the necklace as the piece from Tiffany & Co.'s website, but the campaign did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

We also reached out to Tiffany & Co.'s public relations office to see if the company could confirm, or deny, whether the in-question necklace was its product. We and will update this article if we receive a response.

What We Know About the Necklace

The screenshot on the left of the split-screen image was taken from a video posted on Harris' Facebook account on July 25, 2024. The caption read: "Donate now. Election Day will be here before we know it. Can I count on you to make a donation today while there's still time?"

In the 35-second video, Harris asked for donations "today" to support her 2024 presidential election campaign: "Not tomorrow, not next week. Today is the day I hope you will donate to support our movement. Because the truth is, time is running out. We're in the final lap of this race, and Election Day will be here before you and I know it."

That was not the first time Harris wore what appeared to be the necklace in question. On June 27, 2024, she wore the piece (or one that looked similar to it) during a broadcast interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper:

She also wore the style months earlier, on March 7, 2024, during President Joe Biden's State of the Union address. In March, the same day that the State of the Union (SOTU) took place in Washington, D.C., fashion and style magazine Vogue reported the necklace Harris wore during the SOTU was indeed a Tiffany & Co. piece. Vogue's reporting did not specify the necklace's style or price.

It was unknown whether the necklace Harris wore at the SOTU — a piece Vogue said was Tiffany & Co. — was the same piece she wore in the in-question video soliciting donations for her presidential campaign. From photos and still images of the video, they looked similar, if not nearly identical.

The Tiffany & Co. product is not the only necklace with the same chain-linked design, however. Snopes found similar-looking pieces through a Google search using the Tiffany & Co. description of "Bold Graduated Link Necklace." For example, an 18-karat, gold U-link chain hardware necklace is for sale for a fraction of the Tiffany & Co. price on various websites. Another such necklace retails for $35:

Despite Vogue reporting in early March that Harris wore a Tiffany & Co. necklace that looked similar to the one seen in the July 25 video, many facts were unconfirmed, including whether they were the same necklace. If so, it was also unknown whether they were purchased from Tiffany & Co. for $62,000. Therefore, until further information is provided by Harris' team or Tiffany & Co., we have rated this claim as "Research in Progress." We will update this report as more information becomes available.

Snopes has previously reported on rumors about eye-catching jewelry, including whether rapper Ice Spice wore a "satanic" cross at the 2024 Super Bowl and the false claim that Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska spent $1,100,000 on Cartier jewelry during a visit to the U.S.
